Penelope's Birth Story
Written by Carolina
Aug 17, 2010 at 06:54 PM

This is the story of Penelope's last few days in the womb and exit into the world.

This was my healthiest pregnancy. A bit of nausea in the beginning, on and off heartburn, and no complications. From the start we wanted to go natural but still leaned towards a hospital birth. After several conversations with different doctors in the practice we decided a hospital birth would not be conducive to our needs and wants and switched to midwife care at about 22 weeks.

08-11-10: First Sponge Bath

Well, being that Penelope is 3 days old now and hasn't had a bath yet, we decided it was time for her first sponge bath.  She didn't like it too much, but we really didn't expect it to.  Here are a couple pictures.

08-11-2010: PeneloTree
Written by James

The whole home birth experience was awesome.  There is, however, one item that the midwives can't clean up or throw away for us.  Anyone who is familiar with the birth process will know that the placenta is also delivered after the baby.  Since this is technically an organ, it can't just be thrown away.  Some people put it down the garbage disposal, some put it in the freezer, some donate it to science.  We decided to use it as fertilizer for a tree.  We bought a pear tree and planted it in the back yard.  It is now dubbed the "PeneloTree".

It is stripe test week and Lucas has been practicing his punches to earn his second stripe.  Today we went to karate and Lucas passed his test with flying colors.  Here are a couple pictures from his accomplishment.  He is doing great in karate and we are very proud of him.

08-10-10: First Doctor Visit
Written by James
Aug 10, 2010 at 07:00 PM

Today we took Penelope to see her pediatriation for her first checkup.  Everything is great.  Only one small issue.  Penelope is tongue tied.  We have made an appointment to get it fixed first thing in the morning.  It is a very small surgery.  Should be in and out.  Here are a couple of pictures of the doctor visit in the mean time.

Since Bernie is going to be driving home on his birthday, we decided to celebrate his birthday today.  We had a cake and candles and the works.  Caught a picture of him blowing out the candles...

08-08-10: Happy Birthday Penelope
Written by James
Aug 07, 2010 at 07:00 PM

It has been nine months in the making, but the Lord blessed us this morning with baby Penelope.  Everything went great with the birth.  Of course it took a false alarm and two days of on and off contractions for Penelope to join us.  But she is here.  Carol is going to write up a birth story to share her experience of our home birth in the next few days.  When she finishes that I will post it.  Until then, here are some pictures of the event...
